A major contributor to effective ALM is robust analytics that enable timely and informed decision making. To that end New York Life is looking to bring in a new Head of Modeling & Analytics to build a team and lead three major modeling development areas, Data & Infrastructure, Asset & Derivatives Modeling, and Integrated Asset-Liability Modeling. Position Summary To build and lead a team covering three major financial modeling/financial engineering areas: Data & Infrastructure, Asset & Derivatives Modeling, and Integrated Asset-Liability Modeling, in support of ALM & Investment strategy development for New York Life's general account portfolios. Major Responsibilities

• Lead a team of actuaries and financial engineers.
• Design and Develop data models and infrastructure aimed at enabling and streamlining ALM production & reporting processes as well as research & development activities.
• Develop run-time efficient asset and derivative models to be used in financial projections, simulations, and strategy development.
• Build integrated ALM models and supporting infrastructure to allow simulations of ALM strategies over time through different economic scenarios, including estimates of earnings and statutory balance sheets over the terms of the projections.
• Work with portfolio strategists and portfolio managers to use models to support strategy optimization analyses to achieve business objectives, including product pricing and in-force management. Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree or higher in a quantitative/technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the fields of Financial Engineering, ALM modeling at a financial institution. Experience leading a technical team (not necessarily as a direct manager).
  • Strong foundations in financial engineering, asset pricing, economic variable modeling. Experience with stochastic simulations of investment strategies is a strong plus. Familiarity with process automation and distributed computing. Hands on programming experience is a must, preferably in a multi-developer, multi-user setting.
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Thinking outside the box.
  • Understanding of insurance products and accounting frameworks is highly desirable but not required.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to explain technical concepts to less-technical constituencies.
