Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Project Director for Healing Communities study, which a 5-year NIDA- funded trial develop and test the Community-that-Heals (CTH) intervention to reduce incidence of fatal overdoses in 16 heavily impacted counties in New York State.

CTH is a coordinated multi-system, multi-sector community response to the opioid epidemic, directed by County Health Commissioners, and driven by robust community engagement and real-time learning based on data science and systems science. The study will employ mixed methods to rigorously identify multi-level theory-driven factors that impede or facilitate the implementation and sustainability of CTH in each county. The Sr. Project Director will be supervised by the Principal Investigators and work closely the multidisciplinary investigative team with expertise on OUD and other substance use disorders, HIV, HCV and other comorbid conditions, opioid overdose prevention, pharmacology, data and system science, implementation science, and community-based participatory research and will include government investigators from NYS Department of Health and NIH. The New York State (NYS) component of the multi-site HEALing communities study involves multiple states that will be linked to a common Data Coordinating Center.

Responsibilities

  1. Designing research protocols as well as overseeing the design, supervision, and implementation of research activities to achieve

project objectives.

  1. Oversee and evaluate the delivery of training and technical assistance to individuals and organizations on different core

interventions for the project in 16 counties/communities in NYS.

  1. Track and monitor progress of research milestones for study and prepare weekly progress reports for investigative team.

  2. Oversee research activities and functions of subcommittees for study

  3. Ensure scientific rigor and reproducibility of all study data and manage flow of data to the Data Coordinating study.

  4. Assist in preparing and publishing on the results and conclusions of the project, as well as other relevant topics.

  5. Manage and coordinate the research team. Supervise and evaluate the performance of 16 study coordinators across New York state and

project staff members to ensure they effectively carry out their responsibilities.

  1. Ensure scientific integrity of community research activities and serve as major contact and liaison with county commissioners,

community advocates, and directors of local, state, and federal agencies as well as health care organizations, social services, and

drug treatment agencies related to the project.

  1. Oversee scientific rigor of data collection, including in-depth interviews, and survey administration in 16 counties.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 7-9 years of related experience, or Master's degree in appropriate academic discipline

and five years of experience related to research project management.

  1. Ability to design, conduct, and evaluate independent research and supervise all phases of project for which responsible.

  2. Proven organizational, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

  3. Project management skills and ability to work independently, taking initiative to advance projects.

  4. Comprehensive understanding of rigorous research design, implementation, and analysis.

  5. Ability to use sound judgment when interacting with outside parties.

  6. Outstanding oral and written communication skills.

  7. Proven ability to effectively collaborate and interact with all levels of staff, management and executive leadership.

  8. Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.

  9. Willingness to travel as required throughout NYS and to project meetings outside of NYS.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD degree in appropriate academic discipline (public health, social work, psychology, sociology) and three years of experience related to research project management
