We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data
Dr. Joseph Palamar is seeking 2 hourly recruiters for his
epidemiology study examining self-reported use of new psychoactive
drugs among nightclub and dance festival attendees. The study is
funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse.
The ideal candidates are committed, highly motivated individuals
who can work effectively, independently, and in small teams. A
bachelors degree is preferred, but not required. Students enrolled
at NYU are encouraged to apply. The recruiters will survey
individuals about to enter nightclubs and electronic dance music
(EDM) dance festivals typically late at night. They will also try
to obtain voluntary hair samples from a subset of participants who
take the survey. Familiarity with EDM and experience in the scene
is a plus. Outgoing individuals who are comfortable approaching and
speaking to people they have never met strongly preferred.
Recruiters will work in small groups along with a supervisor to
- Approach individuals about to enter nightclubs and dance
festivals and briefly determine eligibility and interest in
participation in the study
- Oversee administration of the 10-minute electronic survey
(conducted via tablet) and pay participants
- Track the number of individuals entering each randomly selected
- If the participant volunteers to provide a small hair sample
(to be analyzed at a later date), assist in the collection,
labeling and tracking of the sample
- Track recruitment, data collection progress, and participant
payments using spreadsheets (e.g., Excel)
- Attend short periodic team meetings to discuss progress
- To qualify you must have a Associate's degree plus one year
related experience or equivalent combination of education and
- Computer literate with good interpersonal, writing and verbal
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in science, public health, health
education or a related field.
- Previous work experience in an office or research lab
environment preferred, but not required.
- Excellent English and oral communication skills. Interest in
the epidemiology of drug use.
- Familiarity with EDM nightclub, rave and dance festival scenes
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate
with all levels of the organization.
