ROOSEVELT ISLAND OPERATING CORPORATION (RIOC) TITLE: Front Desk/Permitting Associate DEPARTMENT: Sportspark POSITION TYPE: Full-time SALARY RANGE: $68,000/Annually The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) is a public benefit corporation and politic arm of New York State, whose mission is to develop, maintain, and operate the infrastructure of Roosevelt Island. As part of this mandate, RIOC operates and maintains several facilities including the Cultural Center, Sportspark, and the Motorgate Garage; as well as other outdoor spaces such as Firefighter's Field, Southpoint Park, and Lighthouse Park, among other facilities and locations. Infrastructure operations also includes the Aerial Tramway, and a free Red Bus Service that stops at various points on Roosevelt Island; and a Public Safety Department that serves as the community's first responders in coordination with the New York City Police Department. RIOC's workforce is also comprised of union workers from Local 210, 32BJ, PSOB, and other administrative staff. POSITION SUMMARY: The Sportspark Athletic Complex is fixated on Roosevelt Island and owned/operated by the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. The goal of the complex is to provide a health and wellness area for all community members to access to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The complex includes a basketball gym, fitness center, weight room, studio, and swimming pool. We are consistently seeking inspiring and motivating members and employees to maximize the services provided by this facility to benefit the community. Under the supervision of the Assistant Manager, Sportspark, the Front Desk/Permitting Associate will handle the day-to-day operations of the newly renovated Sportspark Athletic Complex while delivering high levels of customer service and resources to the community. Sportspark hours of operations are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Deliver an exceptional customer service experience for members. Ensure that all Members and Guest check in and that all Members are addressed by name. Answering telephones and greeting health club members in a friendly, welcoming, and courteous manner, providing information regarding memberships, fitness classes, and taking the necessary notes and communicating to managers/team members as appropriate. Complete payment and membership transactions. Maintain a clear understanding of the membership software to assist members with troubleshooting and managing overall memberships. Must be knowledgeable of the following as applicable: complex policy, Fitness Programs, reservation policy, class descriptions, building schedules and all upcoming events and specials. Generate leads and new membership sales. Sign up/renew memberships. To promote the facility amenities, programs and the Club while maintaining a high level of professionalism and service that aligns with the values, philosophies, and standards of RIOC. This includes being in the approved uniform and nametag. Routing out-of-scope member, maintenance, and/or equipment issues to management. Implement and share new ideas and campaigns to drive membership growth and hit goals established by the General Manager. Create awareness of the Center through community outreach and connectivity. Grow profit centers through promotion of club services to new and prospective members. Sustain and support membership retention through member engagement. Provide needs analysis and personalized/customized site tours for potential members. Frequent cleaning and adhering to all RIOC and COVID safety guidelines Be aware of team members and the environment and participate as a member of the team. Assisting in the professional and clean image of the fitness center and facilities. Work with team members on various projects. Reinforce gym rules & protocols. Perform other duties as assigned. Light data entry as well as scanning & uploading forms. SKILLLS & QUALIFICATIONS : Preferred health and wellness background. Superior customer service skills. Excellent Microsoft and computer software capabilities. Able to lift and move 45lbs. A dynamic personality: enthusiastic, energetic, friendly & personable. The ability to multi-task; goal-oriented and self-directed. The ability to connect with, inspire and motivate others with strong listening and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Professionalism: polished appearance and phone manner. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and/or special events. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate must have a broad range of skills, but above all, they must be curious, flexible thinkers who love learning new things and tackling challenges daily. In addition, the preferred candidate should possess the following: A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and minimum of two (2) years of full-time satisfactory experience in health and wellness or related field along with sales/membership experience and demonstration of meeting and exceeding goals. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Graduate study in the field of Sports, Fitness, Health & Wellness, Customer Service, Sales, or other related fields may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 credits equaling one year of experience. Graduation from an accredited school may be substituted for one year of the required experience. However, all candidates must have at least two years of experience as described above.
