Program/Department: New York City Mural Arts Project

Work Location: 980 Halsey Street, Brooklyn, NY 11207

Hours: Full Time 35 hours per week - Applicants must have some availability for evening and weekend work, in addition to traveling throughout the five boroughs via public transportation.

Salary: $40,000/year

Program Overview:

The New York City Mural Arts Project (NYCMAP) uses a collaborative mural-making process to discuss mental health, support community resiliency, and foster new relationships in NYC neighborhoods. The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene brings together the broader community with community-based mental health providers and their program participants, professional muralists, peer specialists (people living with mental illness trained to help others with mental health conditions) to break down misconceptions and stigma associated with mental illness. Using our participatory art model, conversations are translated into a mural that reflects the dialogue around mental health and incorporates the diversity and strength of everyone involved in the mural-making process. The goals of NYCMAP are to:

Position Summary:

The Project and Communications Coordinator will report to the Program Manager to help execute NYCMAP programming and outreach, ensuring program goals are met, community engagement and marketing strategies are implemented, and day-to-day operations are accomplished. This role is key for program success, specifically to support operations from the planning to installation phase for each mural project. The Coordinator will support the onboarding and orientation of NYCMAP program collaborators and partners (including professional muralists, peer specialists, mental health service providers and their program participants, various community organizations and community boards, other City agencies and neighborhood residents); coordinate inventory for various activities and events; and help develop creative strategies to establish and engage diverse stakeholders and community members in-person and online.

Responsibilities:

? Co-coordinate mural-making activities, events, and presentations including schedules, logistics, and materials with multiple project stakeholders with the Program Manager.

? Proactively manage details of multiple and concurrent project timelines including maintaining and managing work plans and project deliverables in close collaboration with the Program Manager (including travel to project sites).

? Develop content and design for all marketing materials (constant contact newsletter, flyers, postcards, emails, social media, reports, and briefs), website, and internal/external presentations (e.g. slide decks to chart program progress internally at DOHMH, orientation, and check-in meetings with program collaborators, and community outreach presentations).

? Manage the NYC Mural Arts Project Instagram account, planning a calendar of posts

? Provide additional support as needed by the Program Manager, including but not limited to researching and liaising with contractors, vendors, community entities, additional project partners, and conducting outreach to onboard contractors and volunteers.

? Help ensure mural themes and designs are aligned with mental health topics, community stories, and the NYCMAP mission, in close collaboration with program staff, artists, peer specialists, and various community groups.

Qualifications Required

? Minimum Bachelors required major in Public Health preferred. This position requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check.

? At least 2 years of work experience executing community-based projects, public events, design research, and/or arts-based activities that engage a range of stakeholders.

? Manage all programmatic administrative duties including competing priorities and diverse assignments with a high level of organization and attention to detail

? Outstanding communication skills are a must- design, writing, and editorial

? Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), WordPress, Canva, Facebook/Instagram, Google Products, MailChimp, or Constant Contact
