Job Description:

The Winchendon School - New York seeks a High School Social Studies teacher for an employee leave replacement between January 3, 2023, through June 16, 2023. Depending on availability, the position could begin as early as December 1, 2022, to allow for onboarding. Depending on the needs of our growing school for the 2023/24 school year, we would be eager to explore the possibility of continued employment beyond the winter and spring of 2023.

*Core responsibilities will include: *

* _Teaching 2 sections of 11th grade American Studies_
* _Teaching 1 section of 12th grade Global Studies_
* _Assisting weekly with Winchendon's field based learning program (iLAB)._
* _Supporting Winchendon's end of year experiential learning program (ColLAB)._
* _Supporting 12th grade advisory._

Because these aforementioned responsibilities equate to roughly 70% of a full time faculty members' overall responsibilities, the faculty member will be asked to substitute teach and support other school operations daily as assigned by Head of School, Dean of Student Support, Dean of Academics, or other designees.

*Qualifications: *

* Bachelor of Arts (minimum)
* Experience working with Middle or High School age students in an academic, athletic, camp, or extracurricular setting.

The Winchendon School seeks innovative and ambitious educators for our satellite campus The Winchendon School - New York. Winchendon's academic program intentionally builds essential academic and character skills, while facilitating a supportive space for students to direct their own education toward experiential learning opportunities, internships, independent projects, and other initiatives that they are excited about. For all of our students, we strive to assist in the growth of character traits and life skills essential for a successful future: initiative, creativity, grit, empathy, cooperation, independence. Ours is a college preparatory school with the mission to support students who may not be as successful in more traditionally constructed schools, and so our faculty must be relentlessly empathetic, creative, and flexible as we build skills and confidence among students who are largely underserved in other programs.

Since the satellite campus is still a growing startup (Opened 2018/19 with 25 students; 60 students enrolled in 2022/23; A target of 75 for 2023/23), faculty are called upon to teach a range of subjects and participate in multiple functions of school operations. A qualified teacher will be a dedicated student of teaching methods and student-centered engagement, incorporate contextualized project and field-based learning opportunities into their classrooms, and utilize self-reflection as an assessment strategy and vehicle to encourage growth.
