And it's why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it's worth paying for. -Note for US based roles: Any offer of employment is contingent on providing proof of Covid-19 vaccination prior to your start date,subject to approved medical and/or religious exemptions, in accordance with applicable law.Job DescriptionThe New York Times is looking for a director to develop and promote experimentation standards across the organization, partnering with analytics, product, and engineering teams across the enterprise to increase testing capacity and the speed of learning. This is a senior-level individual contributor role in which you will collaborate closely with data platforms, core platforms, and the analytical teams across the company to standardize testing set-up, QA, metrics, pipelines and readouts, develop our testing platform capabilities, and help quantify the combined testing impact on the enterprise. The role requires strong strategic and tactical viewpoints, leadership skills, and endless curiosity.Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert on testing (A/B, multivariate, etc) and our existing experimentation platform, advising analysts, product managers and engineers on best practices and developing and providing training to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Create methodologies and governance for an enterprise-wide experimentation program and promote standards across the organization
  • Increase experiment velocity by developing efficient processes, working with product and engineering to improve platform capabilities wherever possible -
  • Drive a culture of experimentation across the organization
  • Partner with counterparts across Data & Insights on test analyses and readouts -
  • Represent the best practices of the Data & Insights group to both internal and external partnersMinimum Qualifications:
    • 8+ years of progressively complex experience in analytics
    • 5+ years experience designing, implementing and analyzing A/B tests
    • Deep expertise in statistics, with experience tailoring explanations of statistical and technical concepts to a variety of audiences
    • Mastery of SQL
    • Experience with big data environments such as Google BigQuery
    • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Mode, or Looker
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work seamlessly with a cross functional team of analysts, technologists, operations and product managersPreferred Qualifications
      • Experience working with data engineering teams
      • Experience in Python
      • Experience working in git
      • Experience with ETL tools, such as Airflow or dbt
