Sports & Recreation Specialist, Harlem Gems HCZ requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. (HCZ) is a multi-site, multi-program community organization that provides a unique and comprehensive interlocking network of education, social and health services, and recreation to more than 26,000 children and adults in Central Harlem. Many of the children HCZ works with go to public schools and attend its engaging after-school programs. Whether in its Promise Academy charter schools or public schools, HCZ's high standards and expectations are the same for all its children-ensuring that all of them are on track to attend college and successfully graduate. HCZ's overarching goal is to create a "tipping point" in the neighborhood so that children are surrounded by an enriching environment of college-oriented peers and supportive adults. Nationally and internationally recognized for its early and progressive intervention programs, HCZ has been lauded by The New York Times as "one of the most ambitious social-policy experiments of our time." Harlem Gems is the final step in our early childhood pipeline. A top-notch, year-round, full-day pre-kindergarten program, Gems works with 240 children across four sites to ensure that each and every one enters kindergarten school-ready. With five staff in each classroom, classes have a 4:1 child-to-adult ratio, allowing for more one-on-one work and ensuring that students receive the individualized attention they need. Gems staff also encourage strong family involvement, engaging parents and caregivers in classroom activities and creating consistency between home and school. We are currently seeking a Sports and Recreation Specialist to plan, organize, and supervise all sports and recreational activities. This individual will assist with the procurement of city parks field permits for competitions, games, and sporting events. They will also address and resolve parents' requests & concerns, as well as all general customer service issues related to sports and fitness. - Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and organize sports and fitness workshops/clinics for program participants and program staff
  • Provide support for the evaluation of sports/fitness workshops and programming
  • Create marketing materials to promote sports-related tournaments, clinics, and services provided
  • Supervise fitness specialists and consultants to develop sports/physical activities
  • Develop tools to track and assess the progress of sports and fitness programs
  • Write reports and give presentations on the progress of physical activities
  • Coordinates and maintain gymnasium usage schedule
  • Performs other duties as assigned Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
    • High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Sports Management or related field preferred
    • At least 3 years of experience working in Fitness based programming
    • Must have strong computer, writing, communication, and leadership skills
    • Experience with group activities and workshop facilitation a plus
