Status:--Exempt----------------------------------------------------------Position Purpose:----Serves as the Engineering leader for the plant. Executes the mechanical, electrical, and process-related--solutions that continuously improve and correct manufacturing issues.-- Leads engineering projects and operational projects that continuously improve safety,--quality, and site processes; utilizing a broad range--of equipment, materials, and processes.--Principle Accountabilities

  • Manages capital projects from conceptualization to completion.
  • Collaborates with the R&D department to develop, organize, and report on R&D trials as they relate to process improvements. Assists with performing analysis on competitive products to determine strengths and weaknesses of competing products.
  • Collaborates with management, engineering, and other staff to drive process improvement in daily manufacturing capabilities, strategic goals, and other considerations to facility production processes.
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment or parts and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Leads high-impact initiatives as assigned, incorporating the principles of continuous improvement, a value stream approach, and the voice of the customer as appropriate to the specific objectives of the initiative. Provide for effective communication and change management processes within the site as needed with respect to the initiative.
  • Analyzes and plans space requirements and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Including utilizing statistical methods to estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related requirements, costs, and potential, and making recommendations to improve the flow of materials and information systems, in collaboration with the Operations Manager.--
  • Provide site leadership of all continuous improvement activities within all areas of the organization and drive clear linkage of activities to the value stream of the enterprise, including: assures effective execution of continuous improvement projects, supporting project sponsors or process owners in their successful completion. Leads continuous improvement teams with method implementation and the alignment of projects with operating goals of the site and corporate strategies, plans, and objectives.
  • Assists the Operations Manager to implement the IPS including overview and detailed training, coaching Pillar Leaders, and monitoring site progress towards Bronze, Silver, Gold level attainment. Including implementing and maintaining a mechanism to sustain the progress as the site gains experience in methodologies. Additionally, incorporates learning and new methods from throughout the corporation into the site IPS, with a focus on manufacturing improvement and reduction in waste.
  • Provides technical guidance and support for the Maintenance Department
  • Champions directs, and participates in process improvement and process analysis activities.
  • Initiates and manages plant-level projects relating to mechanical installations, removals, and upgrades
  • Provides technical assistance in the areas of troubleshooting, PLC programming, operator interfaces, drive systems, and general process control
  • Serves as the plant expert for advice to maintenance technicians and department mechanics.
  • Serves as the plant champion along with the Plant Manager for direction and implementation of sustainability projects related to air, water, electricity, and gas consumption and reduction.
  • Implements new project deployments from conception to completion.
  • Responsible for Safety and 5S deployments and machine modifications related to Process Hazard Assessments.
  • Identifies machinery malfunctions and reliability concerns including leading and/or coordinating projects to address concerns.
  • Coordinates OEE improvement of machinery through machine design.
  • Related tasks as requested by supervisor.--Essential Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor---s Degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering--- Prefer Electro-Mechanical or Paper Industry Engineer.
  • Keen knowledge of open and closed-loop web tension control systems will be submitted for immediate consideration
  • Minimum 5 years in a related industry field such as plastic or converting environment.
  • Must be able to do basic PLC programming or be capable of learning the same within the first 3 months including locating I/O Tags and devices in a PLC system, configuring local I/O modules, creating tags and monitoring data, drafting basic ladder logic, selecting basic ladder logic instructions, and entering ladder logic components. Basic Inverter and Servo drive knowledge are required as well.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Possesses experience in design and capability associated with the following:-- process piping, pumps, hydraulic systems, pneumatics, natural gas, air conveyance systems, silos, tanks, extruders, winders, rollers, conveyors, tension controllers, dancers, web guides, photoelectric sensors, optical encoders, pistons, drives, servomotors, compressors, PID controllers, Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience as a continuous improvement practitioner is required.--Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certified strongly preferred.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to handle multiple projects and timelines while creating cohesiveness in projects across the plant.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be detail-oriented, results-driven, and conscientious.
