National Grid Ventures (NGV) is the competitive division of National Grid PLC, and the US Business Development team is tasked with exploring and securing new business opportunities - such as offshore wind, energy storage, and hydrogen - for the company.

National Grid is hiring a Lead Commercial Analyst. The position will be located in Waltham, MA.

Job Purpose
The Lead Commercial Analyst contributes to the development of commercial hydrogen energy projects by working with internal & external partners, conducting analysis of markets, policies, and technologies, and preparing investment proposals for new projects.

Key Accountabilities

  • Prepare market and financial analyses based on primary and secondary research to evaluate the attractiveness of new business opportunities in existing and emerging markets.Develop and maintain financial models, create pro-forma documents, and provide financial documents supporting investment cases.
  • Serve as a commercial expert in NGV's partnerships in renewable energy. Work closely with finance, engineering, market fundamentals, corporate affairs and project management teams within NGV and with JV partners.
  • Identify, design and implement developments to applicable contractual, commercial and regulatory arrangements.
  • Prepare business plans, investment committee papers, executive briefings, PPA/offtake agreements, strategy papers, budgets, and business readiness plans.
  • Participate in market development activities related to emerging technologies (eg, hydrogen) or emerging market geographies.
  • Write RFPs, evaluate bids, and manage contracts with consultants and other third-party contractors
    --- Bachelor's degree required and master's degree preferred
    --- Detail-oriented, quantitative & analytical skills, team-player, with solid communication skills
    --- Experience working with or in the power sector or leading modeling projects in a consulting or corporate work environment
    --- Working understanding of utility and energy industry finance concepts
    --- Ability to translate model outputs into business insight & articulate impact of results on the business
    --- Some knowledge of US power topics, such as industry revenue structures, policies, regulations & market fundamentals
    --- Experience managing people that are direct reports as well as JV team members that are not direct reports and may even be employees of partner companies.
